Özet

In Türkiye, voluntary abortion can be performed up to the 10th week of pregnancy. However, reports and studies suggest that some clinicians and hospital administrations hesitate to perform voluntary abortions in practice. This reluctance can lead to difficulties in accessing safe and legal abortion services in public hospitals and may undermine the trust between patients and healthcare providers. This study aims to analyze the ethical and legal awareness of physicians in Türkiye regarding voluntary abortion and conscientious objection, and to examine their views on these issues. The study will assess clinicians’ ethical perspectives on abortion and explore how these perspectives affect their medical practices, particularly in the context of conscientious objection. Additionally, the impact of current legal regulations on both clinicians and patients will be evaluated. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with gynecologists working in different cities in Türkiye, with a sample group selected through the snowball method. The data will be analyzed using thematic content analysis. The study aims to highlight the need for clearer regulations in both ethical and legal terms and to shed light on the ethical dilemmas arising from the conflict between conscientious objection and the right to abortion, particularly in relation to health service inequalities caused by conscientious objection.
