In the present study, microstructural and mechanical properties of cerium oxide doped hydroxyapatite-alumina
composites were investigated by a series of tests. Six types of ternary composites with dissimilar rates of cerium
oxide (wt% 0.5-2.5) and alumina (wt% 2.5 and 5) were prepared, pelleted and sintered at various temperatures.
X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used to evaluate phase changes and morphology of
sintered samples. Density, hardness and compressive strength measurements were used to determination of
mechanical properties. Experimental results show that the highest density and hardness were obtained to HA-
2.5A-2.5C samples as 3.11 gr/cm3 and 4.92 GPa, the highest compressive stength was obtained to HA-5A-2.5C
samples as 242 MPa.
