Özet

Republic Day celebrations, on October 29th, hold historical and cultural significance in Turkey. Music plays a role in commemorating this occasion. The objective of this study is to create thematic compositions for the October 29th celebrations using genetic algorithms. These algorithms, inspired by evolution enable the generation of melodies that perfectly capture the essence of Republic Day. The process involves creating a population of musical note sequences evaluating their fitness using a scoring function and then passing on the melodies to subsequent generations through crossover and mutation. This iterative process continues for generations ultimately resulting in music that evolves with melodies of increasing fitness value. It is generated by Python code sampling and listening to the mid extension of the obtained note with an online midi player. By adjusting the parameters in the code, note intervals and the length of the composition, we can produce complex and long music pieces that are compatible with the essence of the Republic Day. Furthermore, this study explores the potential and future perspectives of genetic algorithms in music composition, encouraging the courage and possibility of research and experimentation in music composition. With a harmonious combination of tradition and technology, genetic algorithms give a new dimension to the celebration of the Republic Day, leading to creative and thematic musical compositions using the technological requirements of the era, which can raise the spirit of the nation in the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
