This study discusses the ideal powertrain requirements for an electric vehicle (EV). First, power demand analysis for a dynamic vehicle model is performed, and the desired powertrain requirements are identified based on the determined driving cycles. Then, internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric motor (EM)-based vehicle architectures are modeled according to the calculated powertrain requirements. The sensitivity analysis of the powertrain components is performed for the modeled architectures in terms of power and energy. To increase the range of the vehicle with EM-based propulsion, regenerative breaking with flywheel application is analyzed, and the ideal architecture for the EV Powertrain is identified and evaluated.
