This paper is a translation of Thomas Michel’s study titled “The
Rights of Non-Muslims in Islam: An Opening Statement”. In his paper,
the author mainly discusses the theme of the perspective of Islam regarding non-Muslims. Firstly, he explains the minority rights both the
universal norms and the specific formulation, and after that, he examines these topics: The people of the book, The Sharia and the nonMuslim, The Right to Appeal, Discrimination, Worship, Proselytism, and
Conversion, Marriage and family, The need for dialogue. The author’s
points of view were discussed by many Muslim authors and replied.
This paper and other refutations will be translated to make a contribution
to the historical criticism and to see the whole discussions on the same
platform
