Özet

Palliative care services, which are offered in addition to the treatment services in today's health service

delivery and aim to support the patient and his family physically, socially and psychologically, aim to

increase the quality of life of individuals. Palliative care service is accepted as a service that should be

planned to support all kinds of treatment approaches, together with the diagnosis of life-threatening

diseases. In palliative care, whose basic philosophy is to add life to years; the focus of services related

to the care process; evaluation of symptoms, planning of patient-centered care, informing the patient

and his family, implementation of planned care, evaluation of care results and increasing the patient's

quality of life. In this respect, coping with the problems related to the disease and the care process is at

the center of palliative care services. It is known that patients followed in palliative care units are

frequently stroke patients. Stroke is a condition that occurs as a result of a decrease or interruption in

blood flow to the brain, which is the second cause of mortality in the world and causes an increase in

disability rates. Therefore, stroke is considered an important health problem. Stroke is a complicated

condition that affects the patient's level of consciousness, limitation of movement and oral intake. After

a stroke, individuals often become dependent. In terms of caregivers, care burden and workforce losses

occur. Patients who do not receive effective health care after stroke; Due to malnutrition,

musculoskeletal deformities, pressure sores and being confined to bed, the lungs, urinary system, and

wounds become prone to infections. Stroke is a condition that has a serious financial burden on health

systems due to the need for frequent hospitalization and close follow-up. Because of these features,

stroke requires a holistic and systematic nursing care. The use of care models by nurses in chronic and

complicated health problems has been found useful in studies. In this study, a stroke patient hospitalized

in the palliative care unit is handled according to the functional health patterns model, which is one of

the nursing care approaches.
