Özet

A large part of the world trade is carried out in the Asian countries. In addition, the opportunities Asian countries face due to their geopolitical location and the new cooperation opportunities that these opportunities will bring have made it attractive for the countries of the region to act together in the commercial field. The most important reflection of cooperation and partnerships in the Southeast Asian region is undoubtedly The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Over time, it was understood that these regional partnerships could be raised to a higher level, and multilateral negotiations were held thereupon. Following these negotiations, one of the world's largest free trade agreements, including not only ASEAN countries but Southeast Asian and Oceania countries, was signed in 2020. Countries such as Australia and New Zealand have also shown a will to do business within the framework of cooperation with ASEAN countries by participating in this free trade agreement. Most of the world trade takes place in the countries that are the signatories of this treaty, and therefore trade is subject to the provisions of this treaty. Although many countries of the region are signatories to this treaty, India, a major economic power, did not become a party to this treaty. On the one hand, the relationship of the country with the countries of the near and far periphery has been considered, and on the other hand, the possibility of the convenience to be provided by the free trade agreement to the parties is lower than the returns to India has been emphasized.
