Özet
Electron Beam Welding (EBW) offers unrivalled penetration depth and minimal thermal distortion for joining difficult-to-weld superalloys in aerospace hardware. This thesis quantifies how key EBW parameters—beam current, focal position, oscillation amplitude and travel speed—influence the mechanical integrity and microstructural evolution of Inconel 601 butt joints. Using a statis-tically designed matrix of three parameter clusters, full-penetration welds were produced in 6 mm plate and characterised by optical microscopy, micro-hardness mapping and monotonic tensile tests. The data reveal a narrow optimum window that homogenises energy density, suppresses porosity below 1 vol % and retains epitaxial columnar dendrites with primary arm spacing λ 1 ≈ 8 μm. Tensile spec-imens welded within this window achieved an average ultimate tensile strength of 628 MPa—only 0.6% lower than the unwelded alloy—and exhibited ductile dimple fracture, indicating negligible embrittlement. Compared with sub-optimal conditions, strength scatter was reduced five-fold and elongation recovered to 92% of base-metal ductility. The resulting parameter map and high-fidelity ther-mal–mechanical dataset provide immediately transferable guidelines for Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) pilot production lines and serve as benchmark inputs for digital-twin models. While the study is restricted to room-temperature tension of single-pass joints on one EBW machine, the experimental framework is readily extensible to creep, fatigue and dissimilar-alloy trials. Finally, this study demonstrates that disciplined parameter optimisation can deliver near-base-metal performance in Inconel 601 welds, advancing both scientific understand-ing and industrial deployment of zero-defect EBW for next-generation a erospacestructures.
