Electrification is one of the most significant trends in the automotive industry. Range is a particularly important criterion, especially for battery electric vehicles. One Pedal Drive (OPD) is a function that extends the range capacity of vehicles through energy recuperation. Like any other vehicle function, OPD has many parameters that need to be optimized according to the characteristics of the vehicle. This study proposes a virtual optimization methodology using a simulation platform to optimize recuperation torque during coasting maneuvers when electric motors are used as generators. The proposed methodology establishes models of the OPD function and the vehicle. Then, it tests the OPD function by varying the design parameters to optimize the generator torque curve. Variations are generated using an active design of experiments (DOE), and an optimization model is created. The simulation results are evaluated to reduce the data to an objective function value. The desired energy recuperation level with a decent deceleration rate can be achieved by selecting the optimal parameter.
