  This course deals with the Vehicular Networking including in-car networking and networking among cars as well as the design principles, modeling, and evaluation of Vehicular Networks (VANETs). We focus on (1) applications, their requirements, and system components (2) enabling technologies and the standards, (3) data dissemination approaches, (4) tools and techniques for the performance evaluation of Vehicular Networks. We also focus  on EU standards in addition to US - IEEE 1609 standards.

  Some key topics are:

  - V2X Communication Architecture, Protocols and Standards (at each layer of the protocol stack)

  - Issues and state-of-the-art solutions for the following cases:

  • Information Dissemination
  • Routing
  • Efficient Media Access Control (MAC)
  • Congestion control

  - Optimization Techniques and Solutions

  - Standards and methods for

  • Safety Applications
  • Non-Safety/Traffic Efficiency Applications
  • Platooning
  • Content Delivery Networks

  - Traffic Analysis (Real Vehicle Trace Analysis)
