Özet

One of the most important missions of information and documentation centers is to provide and furnish researchers and users with the information they need in their quest for access to scientific data. On the other hand, are library budgets adequately equipped with the funds to invest in providing access and procuring the necessary resources? In many countries in the world, libraries are faced with depleted budgetary resources despite the high subscription costs demanded by publishers. Because of this, libraries have formed consortiums among themselves in order to increase their marketing power with publishers and make their needed acquisitions. The fundamental basis of forming library consortiums has been to make use of economic methods of procurement of academic resources for information centers so as to create favorable opportunities for users in search of information. Information and documentation administrators not only follow up on global developments in electronic publishing but also represent a significant group of professionals who contribute to this process. In terms of the management of academic information and documentation, information centers need to monitor their electronic resource supply and services as well as their various working programs and processes. University libraries inTurkey have formed a strong alliance that has resulted in the collaboration of information centers under the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (Anadolu Üniversite Kütüphaneleri Konsorsiyumu-ANKOS). The consortium is a corporate entity that coordinates and collaborates with the information centers through library administrators and electronic resource librarians, conducting its activities under the umbrella of the ANKOS Association, which works for the benefit of the public as a non-governmental organization. ANKOS has worked as both a national and international consortium as an association engaged in national and international cooperative activities since 2012. The professional work force of ANKOS is made up of a group of 45 volunteer librarians equipped with knowledge and competence in the area of information and documentation management, and who are fluent in a foreign language, holders of a graduate degree, and have worked and gained professional experience in internationally integrated workshops and research groups. This paper will evaluate the cooperation and coordination of the information centers in Turkey in terms of ANKOS consortium efforts.
