Purpose: The aim of this study is to make the Turkish adaptation of the Covid Stress Scale (CSS) on the basis of determining the stress caused by the Corona Virus Disease (COVID)-19 pandemic and to test its validity and reliability.
Methods: The English CSS was translated into Turkish with forward and backward translation. Data were collected online from 360 participants. Construct validity was evaluated with confirmatory factor analysis, exploratory factor analysis and content validity. Pearson product-moment correlation, Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient and test-retest methods were used to evaluate the reliability.
Results: It was determined that the Turkish version of CSS has 36 items consistent with the original scale and has five factors including COVID danger and contamination, COVID socio-economic consequences, COVID xenophobia, COVID traumatic stress, and COVID compulsive checking. The construct validity of CSS Turkish version was verified using five-factor structures (.05 < Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) < .10, Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index (AGFI) > .70, Comparative Fit Index (CFI) > .70, The content validity index of the items was determined as 91%. The corrected item-total correlations of the scale ranged from .51 to .89. Internal consistency was reliable with Cronbach's ∝= .93.
Conclusion: Turkish version of CSS scale was found to be valid and reliable. Turkish version can be used as a measurement tool in the assessment of COVID-related stress.
