Özet

Introduction: Physical activity is the whole of the movements performed by body during the day, and causes energy expenditure. The accuracy of the information given by the participant in the physical activity evaluation is important for the classification of the activities.

Purpose: The aim of our study is to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Seven Day Physical Activity Recall (7-Day PAR) Questionnaire in the Turkish population using the pedometer which is another physical activity measurement tool.

Method: 89 healthy volunteers (mean age 35.33±10.131) were included in our study. At first day 7-Day PAR was applied to the participants. In order to measure the physical activity level,OMRON branded Walking style One 2.1 pedometer, which is reliable according to previous physical activity studies, was given and the participant was asked to use the device for 7 days. After one-week period, 7-Day PAR questionnaire was applied to the participant to evaluate the physical activity level of the week in which the pedometer was used. Two 7-day PAR interviews were conducted with a one-week interval to determine Test-retest reliability in the study.

Results: According to 7-Day PAR, mean daily calorie expenditure of participants for the week using the pedometer is 2377,82 kcal/day. There is a moderate correlation between the 7 Day PAR and pedometer data (r=0.443;p=0.001). Correlation between the two 7 Day-PAR interviews was moderate for total energy expenditure (rs=0.585). Pedometer data shows 46.0674% of the group is sedentary,26.9662% is low active,16.8539% is somewhat active, 8.988% is active,1.123% is in the category of highly active individuals.

Discussion and Conclusion: 7 Day PAR Questionnaire evaluates the calories consumed during sleep, activities that other surveys don’t evaluate such as stretching and also categorizes the participant's activities as moderate, hard and very hard. Therefore, it gives more objective result. We think it can be used as a physical activity questionnaire in Turkish population.
