Proje Özeti

The SIR can be expressed in two different ways: firstly, as a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations; and secondly, as a nonlinear Volterra integral equation. It is evident that both of these equations are intractable in closed form. The central argument of this thesis is that, under the assumption that S(t) is a finite multi-exponential function, or alternatively a logistic function, which is an infinite multi-exponential function, a closed-form solution can be obtained. In addition, a methodology will be devised for the calculation of R0, defined as the basic reproductive rate of an infection.
