Proje Özeti

This study will investigate the co-removal efficiency of nitrate and six commonly used pharmaceutical compounds in a column bioreactor utilizing both autotrophic and mixotrophic denitrification processes. To fulfill this purpose, varying nitrate concentrations (5-30 mgL-1) and pharmaceuticals at a constant concentration (5μgL-1) will be applied to simulate domestic wastewater effluent characteristics. The impact of nitrate on pharmaceutical removal will be studied. Additionally, the combined effects of these six pharmaceuticals on the autotrophic and mixotrophic denitrification processes will be observed. The bioreactor will be operated under autotrophic conditions with NO3-N concentrations of 5-20 mg/L, but at a constant nitrate loading rate, which will be adjusted by varying the hydraulic retention time (HRT). The study will shift its focus to examine the mixotrophic denitrification performance concerning the co-removal of nitrate and pharmaceuticals upon reaching the nitrate concentration of 30 mgL-1. The relationship between the introduced amount of external carbon and the resulting decrease in sulfate concentrations and required alkalinity in the effluent will be determined within the mixotrophic process.
