Abstract:
This study consists of a comparative musical analysis of Psalms, New Testament and Quran read in the Christian and Muslim temples in Istanbul. The cantillations recited according to Rast, Hüzzam and Hicaz maqams by the reciters of related religious groups were firstly noted. Then, by using computer aided audio analysis programs, the tones, intervals used in performances and the distances between them in terms of cents were determined. In this way, it is aimed to compare the theoretical systems and performances. After examining the melodic structures in the elongated syllables and the silence durations, comparisons and evaluations had been made between the related groups and the similarities and differences between the performances had been determined.
