Abstract:

This study seeks to investigate and measure the influence of religiosity on organizational commitment through work values. Numerous theoretical and empirical studies have been conducted regarding work values, organizational commitment and the relation between these two broad concepts. The growing understanding of religiosity has offered for many researches and alternative approaches to emerge. New insights for aforementioned concepts assist to raise more awareness of diverse structures of organizations. The quantitative research technique was conducted on 261 participants employed in various Turkish companies located in Istanbul, Turkey. Three survey instruments; Meyer and Allen’s (1991) Organizational Commitment Scale; Hoge’s (1872) Religiosity Scale; and Elizur’s (1996) Work Values Scale tested the relationship among three variables. The findings suggest that there is a positive correlation between religiosity and work values. Work values were found to have weak influence on continuance commitment, while failing to correlate with affective and normative types of commitment.
