ABSTRACT A PORT CITY BARTIN (1830-1923) The industrial revolution was taken progress in the West Europe and spreaded with emperialism to Ottoman Empire. Because of this, the old trade centers that are in internal region like Bursa, Ankara, Mardin, Tokat’s share of world trade reduced. Then port cities like İzmir, Samsun, Trabzon, İskenderiye, Beyrut, Selanik were substituted as a economic power that is being lucky, instead of this cities. Along economic develop wave between 1840-1870 has come strong, the second wave come in the beginning of the XX. century wasn’t strong as the first economic develop wave as. It is necessarry to consider the interval term is a maturing term that economic profits that are gotten at first has become political gains, in the course of time, not a stagnation term. On the other hand, The First World War has caused to was destroyed of empires and to be established of nation states, in the end of the war. Nation state’s statesmen has won to the Western bourgeoisie of port cities with the policies that had made homogeneous the population and created the national bourgeoisie, with using political power and has created another city instead of port city: The capital has been carried to the internal region. The capital always has symbolized the superiority of the national will and central authority against to the the Western powers, in the new economic and political construction. In this study, the economic and structural transformation has been lived in Bartın during the second half of the XX. century has been researched.
