Özet:Ortaöğretim kurumlarında coğrafya dersi öğretimini konu alan bu tez; coğrafya dersinin öğretilmesinin önemini, öğretilmesi esnasında karşılaşılan problemleri, bu problemlerin kaynaklarının neler olduğu ve bu problemlerin çözülebilmesi için gerekli olan önerileri içermektedir. Bu doğrultuda kapsamlı bir araştırma yapılmış ve bu araştırma sonuçları bölümler halinde kategorize edilmiştir. Birinci bölümde, çağdaş coğrafyanın tanımı yapılmıştır. Daha sonra coğrafyanın içeriği üzerinde durulmuştur. İkinci bölümde, öğretim programları hakkında genel bilgiler verilerek, bir öğretim programının oluşturulması konusunda ne gibi çabaların gerekli olduğu üzerinde durulmuştur. Şimdiye kadar geliştirilen coğrafya öğretim programları ele alınmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde, öğretim teknikleri hakkında genel bilgiler verilerek, ortaöğretim kurumlarında coğrafya öğretiminde kullanılması gereken öğretim teknikleri gözden geçirilmiştir. Öğretim esnasında kullanılacak araç - gereçler konusunda ise, ayrıntılı tanıtıcı bilgiler verilmeyip, yalnızca öğretimin gerçekleştirileceği fiziki ortam üzerinde durulmuştur. Dördüncü bölümde, coğrafya öğretmenlerine ve öğrencilere uygulanan anket çalışmalarının sonuçlarından faydalanarak, coğrafya öğretiminin öğretmen ve öğrenci gözüyle ortaöğretim kurumlarındaki yerinin ortaya konulması amaçlanmıştır. Öğretmen ve öğrencilere coğrafyanın tanımı ve içeriği, ortaöğretim coğrafya öğretim programları, kullanılan öğretim teknikleri, ders kitapları hakkında sorular yöneltilmiş, alınan cevaplar analiz edilmiş ve tespit edilen problemlere göre çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur. SUMMARY This thesis issued on teaching geography lesson in secondary school includes the importance of teaching geography, the problems that appear during the teaching and it gives some advices about the solutions of these problems. Through this point a general research is done and the results of the research are categorized into some chapters. In the first chapter modern geography is introduced and then it mentions about the content of the geography. In the second chapter giving general information about teaching programmes, the kinds of efforts that are required to form an education program is discussed. The Geography teaching programmes that have been developed so far are considered. In the third chapter giving general information on teaching techniques, the teaching techniques that are required to be used in Geography teaching programmes in Secondary Teaching Institutions are gone over. Not only being given detailed and introductory information about the equipment that will be used during teaching, but also the physical environment where the teaching will be done is discussed. In the fourth chapter the purpose is to put Geography into the right place in Secondary Schools by using the results of the questionnaires done to the Geography teachers and students. In the questionnaire teachers and students were asked about the definition of the Geography and the content of it, the techniques used in Secondary school Geography teaching programmes and lesson books and the answers were analysed and some solutions are given for the problems that were determined.
